AFAS Publishing Guidelines

AFAS is committed to diversity and inclusion in publishing with the objective to disseminate high-quality research. We support and encourage articles/blogs that are innovative, demonstrate original scholarship and contribute to the field of international arbitration, with a particular interest (but not limited to) arbitration in Africa.

Publishing Policies and Ethics

AFAS is committed to upholding the integrity of all blogs, articles or any literature it publishes. We strongly encourage authors to refer to the Committee on Publication Ethics’
International Standards for Authors.

Plagiarism

AFAS adopts is a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. Issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism or other breaches of best practice in publication are taken very seriously. We evaluate submissions on the understanding that they are the original work of the author(s). It is the responsibility of the author(s) to ensure all references to another person’s work or idea is credited appropriately. Equally, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to gain all appropriate permissions prior to publication where required.

Previous Distribution and/or Publication

The author should disclose to the Editor any prior distribution and/or publication of any portion of the submitted material, including where the article/blog has been previously shared and ensure that appropriate attribution to the prior distribution and/or publication of the material is included.

Publication Decision

All contributions will be initially assessed by the Editor. The Editor is solely and independently responsible for selecting and deciding which of the articles/blogs submitted to AFAS meet the editorial objectives and could thus be published. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding whether the submission is accepted or rejected.

Publication Format

All articles/blogs submitted must be written in English with a word count between 1000-1500 words maximum. All references must be hyperlinked in the text of your submission.
The author(s) must ensure that the article submitted is free from any spelling or grammatical errors.

Timeframe

All submitted blogs will be subject to review and we endeavour to respond with a decision (acceptance, acceptance with minor revisions or rejection) within 7 days. All revisions should be submitted within a period of 7 days from the receipt of the reviewer’s comments. We endeavour to publish all accepted blogs within 14 days from the communication of the final decision.
