Summary of the conversation
In AFAS’s conversation today, his Excellency, Mamadou Konaté, will talk to us about his career and experience as an International Arbitrator and Mediator, well-versed in the OHADA legal system. He will share with us the challenges he faced as a young Malian student who just finished high school in Mali to study Law in France. He will share his experience after he quit a well-traced career at one of the “Big four” to launch his own law firm dedicated to OHADA law for businesses between France and Africa. The establishment of his practice coinciding with the creation of the OHADA Zone, his Excellency, Mamadou Konaté, will explain the specificities of the OHADA Law in general, and OHADA Arbitration and Mediation more particularly, the strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and improvements yet to achieve. He will share his thoughts about the interplay between OHADA and AfCFTA and to what extent AfCFTA will impact OHADA and vice-versa. Finally, as a fervent advocate of the Rule of Law and Capacity Building, Mr. Konaté will explain to us how arbitration can contribute to the promotion of the Rule of Law in Africa.
