Attorney Rose Rameau interviewed Dr. Chrispas Nyombi about PhD research and its relevance to Africa.
This was the sixth Conversation in the AFAS Conversations Series. Dr. Chrispas Nyombi is an Associate Professor in International Commercial Law and Director of Research in Law at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has authored and co-authored several books including the Principles of Company Law in Uganda” published by Law Africa Publishers 2014; The International Investment Agreements of the IGAD Member States” by Wildy, Simmonds & Hill Publishing 2019.
Dr Chrispas’s research and professional engagements have directly contributed to policy developments in Uganda. In particular, he has worked for the Uganda Law Reform Commission, the Uganda Investment Authority and regional bodies such as the East African Community and the IGAD, on developing regulatory framework to improve and support the protection and promotion of foreign investment.
Dr. Chrispas Nyombe discussed his education, career, expertise in international law. He described how it was important for him to have a mentor and how he was able to climb the academia latter in a short period of time. Aside from his ongoing academic work, he described his involvement in African Union and East African Community work. He is a proponent for a potential International Investment Court in Africa to help resolve disputes amongst African States. He also provided guidance to African Students as to the elements of a good PhD proposal.
